With flourishing development of technology, nowadays it is possible to turn on the television and view government at work. Somebody believes that watching those proceedings can help them comprehend the problems that affect their lives. However, the practice of more and more kinds of government proceedings are exposed to the public is like a two-side sword, not only can it shear thorn but also hurt ourselves.
The advantage of making public know the government proceedings such as trials, debates, meetings and so on is as the thought I have mentioned above that we can understand the issues which are relative to our lives, not only to learn the progresses of solving the issues, but to supervise the government of our country. Imagine a situation that there is a meeting, and of course a working monitor is in this meeting room sending pictures of the meeting to the thousands of citizens outside of the room, however sitting around their televisions watching it. Did any official anticipating this meeting dares to do something irresponsible or act ill-suited? Were there someone really behavior improperly, he or she would be condemned by the masses. Among all the touching facts relating to these cases that I have heard and noticed, the most impressive one is the minister of Japan ministry of finance who fell asleep during the world finance meeting because of drunk. Seldom Japanese citizens forgave him though he drunk for the high press is result from finance crisis; finally the minister was force to quit his job. If the meeting is not open to the public, the slept minister might be still in his position, also maybe one day more ridiculous behavior or decisions which jeopardize us would be set.
On the opposite side, the disadvantage is obvious and the more kinds of government proceedings that are televised do not mean the more society will benefit. For the typical example, in our daily life, radicals exist in each block, in each building, in each corner, when attorney heated debate in the court, hardly can assure that there is no words will stimulate the sensitive radicals in front of television. Also not every one is proficient in the progress of issue solving. And it is impractical for the government to explain all the details to the ordinary people. Then here comes a complicated problem that over-supervision brings about ceaseless critic. How can the officials carry out their works on time? If the public affairs can not be addressed in a good order, how do the masses trust the government unconditionally? If the heart of people can not beat as one, is it possible for the society to keep steady?
Viewing government at work on television, watching those proceedings of dealing with issues that involve our lives, supervising our officials so that they will cautions their behaviors do bring numerous benefits. But like every instrument has its own scale of application, we can not over the limitation or it will cause trouble that we may not be able to cope with.
